This hasn’t even happened yet, but we are going to label this as awesome. For the 20th Anniversary of the classic Shelly Long comedy Troop Beverly Hills, a group of geniuses have put together Troop Beverly Hills: The Experience.
“A sing-a-long, dance-a-long, quote-a-long, and if we’re lucky, Shelley Long!”
On October 5th, at a venue in glamorous Hollywood (not Beverly Hills) they will be dancing “The Freddie,” awarding patches, singing Kumbaya and of course screening the fabulous film. And we are beside ourselves with excitement. This is the movie we watched over and over again at countless slumber parties, between prank calling boys and making waffle sundaes. We’ve watched countless crappy ’80s and ’90s flicks get the cult treatment over the years. We’ve also watched this quotable, ridiculous masterpiece get overlooked and underestimated, just like Phyllis Nefler (Shelly Long’s “TBH” Character). Her time, and the time of triumph for “Troop Beverly Hills” has arrived. That time is now, well, October 5th.
Also, may we remind you that Hannah Nefler (Shelly Long’s Daughter) is played by none other than Jenny Lewis of Rilo Kiley? Come, on. Awesome.
