Keanu Reeves is a classic target for bad acting riffs. People say he’s wooden. They say he always sounds dumb, stoned or stoned and dumb. But those people, those critics of the great Keanu, haven’t seen him really shine. We wish there was a way to see Keanu at his best. If only there was a way to see him in, say, a short news piece from 1984 about the Canadian International Teddy Bear Convention.
Thanks to the geniuses at the CBC, the world can finally see Keanu Reeves shine. They just released a clip of Keanu in a short news piece from 1984 about the Canadian International Teddy Bear Convention.
From the moment we first hear his trademark himbo laugh, while interviewing a heartbreaking 14-year-old teddy bear collector, we know we’re in for a real treat. And then the bear themed comedy improv begins.
We may make a lot of sarcastic comments here at RetroComedy, but we really think that Keanu does some of his best work in this piece. When he gets attacked by that polar bear, we really worry for him. When he shoots the breeze with Bear J., their chemistry easily surpasses that of Keanu and Sandra Bullock to be sure. Not to mention the prose is so beautiful, it makes “Much Ado About Nothing” look like worthless trash.
“Bear J! I’ve been looking all over for you. We’ve got to go over to the bears only cafe’ and talk bearsness. Listen, you know that bears necessity contest? We’ve got problems. So listen. We’ll go down, we’ll talk business, and hey. Everything will be OK.”
Wow. That was passionate, touching and not a bit awkward. Way to go Keanu. You next film should star you, the awesomely awkward 14-year-old and a slew of stuffed bears. Don’t let Teddy Ruxpin sign onto the project though. You may get upstaged.
