19th Century Raccoon Dogs Have Giant… Um…Sacks

Monday July 13, 2009 3:00 PM

Oh, Japan, You always bring us something fantastic and bizarre, no matter what century of origin.

They aren’t badgers. They aren’t bears. They’re Tanuki, the mischievous, mythical raccoon dogs of Japanese folklore. Also, according to 19th century artist Utagawa Kuniyoshi, they have giant scrota that they use for everything from catching fish to making a fortune telling tent. Yep. We said scrota. But it is in the name of art history, people! Art history!

Also, it is hilarious.

Check out the freaky and fabulous PinkTentacle for more of these these masterpieces!
