Old-School Degrassi Even More Awesomely Old School Than Usual

Degrassi High, the classic Canadian teen drama, taught us all sorts of lessons back in the 80s. Don’t do drugs, don’t hide your epilepsy from your friends, don’t get molested… you know, the usual stuff that teens learned in the golden age of bangs and braces.

But this gem of a video doesn’t come from the series itself, it’s actual behind the scenes footage of 80s teen actors just being themselves. And it is fascinating. No we see these Canadian icons in their natural habitat, but we get some fabulous 80s references and some haunting premonitions.

When asked about their future, at :11 Amanda Stepto (who played teen mother Spike on the show) replies

” I know where I’ll want to be when I’m 40- I’ll want to be 20 again.”

Sure enough, in 2001, when they brought back Degrassi as Degrassi, The Next Generation who returned to the role she played in her youth? None other than the amazing Amanda Stepto.

Then, of course, there’s Pat Mastroianni (class clown Joey Jeremiah) having the good sense, even at the hight of thier popularity, to make fun of the New Kids On The Block. (:20) Awesome.

We love it when YouTube feels like a time machine!
